To pass on your estate to your heirs, church or other charities after your death when you no longer need it is no big sacrifice. But to dole out some of your nest egg while you're still alive and well is a true test of ones spirit of giving.
Our world is full of people who brag about what they'll leave their kids after their death, but ignore how those younger folks could benefit much more from a little of their inheritance today while struggling to raise their families.
For those who pride themselves in keeping their silos topped off, they need to ask themselves what's better to be remembered for; what they gave after they were dead, or what they did and who they were while they were alive?
Compare the silo filler who gives out little with those beaming and busy people who always seem to be doing things for others right now — people who are receiving that steady flow of happiness inside and out by giving and sharing more of themselves today — by pouring themselves out as a libation as Paul speaks of himself in Philippians 2:17.
Why not, in the spirit of selfless giving, give up some of that silo today instead of waiting until you’re absolutely sure you won’t need it for yourself?
Be aware of being too wise in your own eyes, but stupid in God’s eyes like the rich fool in Luke 12: 16-21—
But God said to him, You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong? Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.
