When we serve in too many different ministries at a time, nobody's lovin' it more but Satan, because we have less time to zero in on the one important thing God may be calling us to do. If certain ministries are interfering with us where our true passions are, we're being lead by Satan's "Plan B."
And if he can't get us to distance ourselves from God by actually living in sin, his "Plan A," he'll try to keep us busy doing so many different things that we never have time to step back, pray about and discover how God created each of us as someone special in order to glorify him in our own unique way as said in Psalms 139: 13-14... You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.
There are many things we can probably do pretty well, but none of them may be the one great thing God has made us to do extremely well. And if we remain consumed in too many ministries, Satan's deck will always be stacked against us and our hope of ever glorifying God in the greatest possible way will remain a dim light at the end of the tunnel.
When "No" Is Good
If you ever feel that you're not giving enough commitment to the ministry you most love because other ministries are getting in the way, pray for the strength to say "No" to them.
There may be over-doing even in well-doing, a being righteous over-much; and such an over-doing as may prove an undoing through the subtlety of Satan... Matthew Henry
Great artists and musicians are consumed by their primary craft -- not multiple crafts. Are we consumed by our calling to a particular ministry or line of work in the same way? Can we afford to have our work diluted by too many other ministries?
Look Forward, Not Back
Before I started one on my other websites, LectorResources.com back in 2012, I often shelved the idea because I never felt that clear calling, until one morning as I was about to tackle a few "back to the old plough" secular writing projects.
Nothing was hitting until I was suddenly drawn to several lector ministry articles in my laptop I'd been putting on the back burner for years. And somehow, amid all the tasks of the day, I was pulled into God's work. Not only pulled, but shaken to the core of my being that now was the time to make this website happen... and I know Satan wasn't happy about it.
So let us always pray to keep Satan out of our decisions. And if you feel you're being pulled toward that one ministry you love as I was with my lector website; then go for it!
